Why do the boys get to have all the fun?

Dear Hollywood, Suck IT!
        Signed, Me!

As a fangirl, and soon to be married to a fanboy, attending midnight releases comes with the territory. I am creating this blog after watching Iron Man 2 and watching Scarlett Johanssen destroy the Black Widow.

Yes, she is beautiful...am I jealous of her beauty? Not so much. I'm no Salma Hayek, but I hold my own in the fangirl kingdom. So my critque is not out of jealousy, but out of hatred of watching women in comics be destroyed on the big screen. And I will say that SJ is not the first, and probably won't be the last, to not accurately portray female villians and super-heroines, but it really pisses me off when a hot girl is squeezed into a spandex bodysuit and sha-shays around and its called acting.  Giving the camera a doe-eyed look, while your stunt double does all the kick ass scenes, is not acting.

In comic books, while the women are scantly clad, hardly are they ever the damsel in distress. Most female characters are written with incredible back stories as scientists, doctors, amazonian princesses. As a young girl reading comics, I dreamed of being Wonder Woman. She was smart, beautiful, could kick ass in some hotpants, and had Batman's heart. She rolled with the boys as a initial member of the Justice League. But now all I hear when i mention Wonder Woman is how much Megan Fox looks like Wonder Woman. SCREW MEGAN FOX and that damn rumor, and that idiot that super imposed her head on wonder woman. When will Hollywood learn that by catering to the male audience, they are alienating an audience of females that actually give a damn! Taking a hot girl and putting her spandex does not attract fangirls to see your movies, it actually makes us not want to see it. Seriously, when a girl is going on a double date with another couple and she knows that the other female is drop dead gorgeous, she will more than likely find a way out of it. Did it ever occur to the suits around the conference table that there will be fangirls in the audience and will pay money to see an empowering female image. It is that they are not aware, or that they just don't care.

And if anyone tries to use ELECKTRA as an example of Hollywood giving a damn about super-heroines....you deserved to be pushed out of Wonder Woman's invisible plane

Super heroes like Batman, Iron Man, SuperMan, the Green Lantern, Thor, Captain America....are all getting the superstar treatment. Its like the are in they land of Oz and all the workers are getting them all ready to see the wizard. So my question is, why do the boys get to have all the fun?

What about Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Black Canary, Poision Ivy, Catwoman, Storm, Rouge, Jean Grey? I'll even take Oracle. Barbara Gordon is in a wheelchair and the girl still kicks ass because she is uber intelligent. Isn't that the image we want to give the future of fangirls. Not a body in spandex.

There are so many positive images of women in comics and hollywood looks right over them. They are used as props in today's movies. An potrait of altered and photoshopped bodies used as a promotional tool to attract the male species  Nothing More.

Until hollywood can get it right, Ill stick with my Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Maybe only Joss Whedon can create the female super hero on screen correctly. Here's to hoping for a better tomorrow with the Avengers.

PS: Blake Lively, you are under a microscope. Please do Carol Ferris some justice.
